up.
Like a lot of musicians, they are hard to classify to one specific genre. They are a hard rock band, but of what type? Metal? Sort of. Punk? Sure. Screamo? Maybe a bit. That's the thing in all types of music and musicians really, they hear something they like, and try to imitate it no matter what it maybe.
This album is the expression of the bands anger and frustration. Anger, in my opinion is the best emotion to translate into song. These guys do it without reservations, without holding back.
Now this band is a guilty pleasure of mine, (not the only one). They are an alternative band, that found its way on MTV and now there fan base consists of teenagers going through puberty. I remember a situation, I was in a car with friends listening to the radio. One of their 'new' songs came on, and I said something along the line of I don't like them anymore. At that instant, I became one of those people of call out sellouts. Realizing this I though to myself for what reason I disliked their music. There was none, in trying to repair the error in my way, I said to my group of my friends that, that is no reason to dislike anything.
The sound the band creates is an aggressive spew of angst. You usually hear the descriptor angst when dealing with emo, punk, and hardcore that cater to the youth. This band does not skew for that. The emotion is genuine, the ballads, powerful. They differ from underground punk and rock as MCR actually makes songs that normal people can enjoy.
It is a fun album, great for screaming out lyrics in a speeding car. Different from the stuff you hear on the radio, even though you hear them on the radio.
