AOTW: Vampire Weekend

From a band of the same name, I really like this album. It is their first album, they are from new york or boston, got a music degree from some ivy league or prestigous school if I remember correctly, released this album in 2008, yadda yadda.

Whenever I search for them on the internet people describe them as an afro-rock sound. This is most apparent in the song 'cape cod kwassa kwassa' where the band uses hand beaten hide covered drums. At first I did not notice this. I really only pay attention to drumming when it is bad or when it's a solo. Yup it's there, it gives the song a different set of legs.

Completely opposite, is the next song on the album, M79, in which the group uses a string section (or a sample of one anyway) that you might find performing with Wagner, or Stratavarious.

At around 40 minutes, the album is pretty short by todays standards. I am waiting patiently for their next album which is on my can't wait list that include them, death cab, muse and the killers. Waiting for stuff on your can't wait list, that is one of those words that I can't think of right now.
